Joséphine, ou la comédie des ambitions

1793. The Reign of Terror has descended upon Paris. Carts roll toward the guillotine. In the corridors of the Convention, an elegant woman requests an audience. Her face distraught, she introduces herself: Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of Citizen-General Beauharnais, accused of treason. She pleads to save him from prison—a prison she herself will experience a few days later.
